He knew that was pushing it, but he liked the irony.

I can top off the tank, pay with a credit card. All gas stations have cameras these days. Credit card is a paper trail. Another way to disarm the victim. No one feared grandfatherly types. Brett smiled, hefted his pack onto his shoulders, and followed his ride into the parking lot. Brett flashed skepticism until he noticed the picture taped to the dash: Donaldson and a long-haired dachshund. The first ten miles were awkward.

Always were. Strangers tended to stay strangers. How often did a person initiate conversation on a plane or while waiting in line? People kept to themselves. It made them feel safe. Donaldson broke the tension by asking the standard questions. What do you do for a living? Where you headed? Invariably, the conversation turned to him. Donaldson sipped from the Big Gulp container in the cup holder, taking a hit of caffeinated sugar water.

He offered the cup to Brett, who shook his head. Probably worried about germs. Donaldson smiled. That should have been the least of his worries. Legal documents. Car parts for repairs. Or a kidney needs to get to a transplant location on time. Donaldson jerked a thumb over his shoulder, pointing to the backseat floorboard. Brett glanced back, saw a cooler sitting there, a biohazard sticker on the lid.

Perfect for a loner like me. Gets lonely on the road. Brett pointed at the photograph on the dashboard. You said he rode with you sometimes. Thanks for telling us about the problem. I have just started I'm around 20 per cent done but have never read any books by any of the authors but am finding it's a bit difficult to remember who is who is this a issue for anyone else?

What I had in my head and what I put down did not match each other even remotely, so I am removing the entire review and leaving this one: If you are a fan of the Jack Daniels series from Konrath and the Luther Kite serious from Crouch - this was the perfect culmination on the stories and a brilliant climax for both.

You can read it as a stand-alone, but you'll appreciate it more if you know your characters. And Luther Kite - he's a one in a million villain! Recommended to those who likes it rougher than PG. View all 6 comments.

May 02, Giovanni Gelati rated it it was amazing. Epic, that word gets thrown around a lot, probably at times, too much. But in this case, it is most accurate. Crouch and Konrath are right now the tip of the spear in this eworld we live in. This download has more gadgets on it then on anything I have seen.

Plus the disclaimer at the beginning, I love it. Fortunately with aid of heavy medication and an understanding wife I can sleep at night, the recurring plotline just keeps running through my mind, over and over and over: the carnage, the hate Epic, that word gets thrown around a lot, probably at times, too much.

Speaking of that, you should go back to my interview with Blake Crouch last Friday as I think he may be adding a new addendum to the disclaimer thanks to yours truly, I think it fits. What the description does not tell you though, is the true mastery of these guys. The time and effort that went into this is apparent very quickly.

Incredible stuff! My new goal is be totally, totally killed by one or both of these incredible authors. I am prepared and willing to die a gruesome death at their hands. It would be like a fast ball down the middle of the plate for Ryan Howard. What are you reading today? Go to Goodreads and become our friend there and suggest books for us to read and post on. Crouch and Konrath are fabulous together. Each of their serial killers is unique and they are the bad guys you love yet love to hate. I recommend this book and the others in this particular series. Sep 11, Zafir Ignatov rated it it was amazing Shelves: read-in Just finished this EPIC ride!!!

Great , great hell of a story , never gets boring , never stops being entertaining. It is quite lengthy also , it is forth every penny! Nov 04, Collette Mclaughlin rated it it was amazing. Absolutely blew me away! I am a fan of Jack Kilborn J. Konrath but it was my first pleasant introduction to Blake Crouch. For those who know me, I am a massive horror fan.

The grittier, sicker and gorier; the better! I like books that can shock me and make me screw my face up in disgust or horror and this book did exactly that. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read this but it was an epic read. One of the best I've read in a long time. View 2 comments. Aug 01, Natasa rated it really liked it Shelves: horror. Great read. Aug 23, Sea Caummisar rated it it was amazing. My buddy John recommended this book to me a while back. I'm kicking myself for not reading it sooner, and I will always respect anything he recommends to me. This book is brutal. Not exactly in an extreme horror way, but there are splashes of extreme, yet at the same time the author is pulling on your heartstrings. Nothing but serial killers.

This universe of bad guys was mostly new to me. I think I've read one or two of the Jack Daniels series. That was fine since it's not necessary to have rea My buddy John recommended this book to me a while back. That was fine since it's not necessary to have read any other books prior to this one.
