It says i'm connected, but i can't connect :S. IE says, "the address is not valid", and it isn't. Anyway, I assume that you have tried some other sites. The other thing that I find unusual is the network adapter. That's very rare.
What kind of system is this, make and model? Also, please tell us everything you can about the internet connection. The cable from the wall is it a telephone cable or TV coax? What is the make and model of the modem or router or whatever is connected to this cable?
Can you ping any sites? Reply from Ping statistics for I don't really know much about the connection at all. I do know it's a telephone cable. It's the same kind of plug i have plugged in into my computer. The cable from the wall goes right into our switch, and from there there is a cable that goes into my computer and some other computers in my house, and btw, it's just my internet that isn't working.
Everybody else's is working! I was going to show you some pics of the modem and wires etc, but i can't get any good pics with my phone. It says it can't find the hostname. Well the reference to Topcom TSH set bells ringing in my head. Turns out, we have discussed this device before in this old thread.
You seemed to know more about the switch back then. If I understand your setup correctly, it should be ethernet cable going from the wall to the switch and from the switch to the PC.
This is not the same as phone cable. See this networking guide that shows the symbol for an ethernet port, the difference between an ethernet connector and a phone connector, and other good information. So, if we really are dealing with ethernet connections, then you still have the problem that your network connections, from the screen shot above, has a connection, but not a Local Area Connection. It's even more bizarre that Windows sees the connection as "connected".
I have formatted and re-installed with this disk before not on my comp though and havent had a problem The disk is the one that came with my computer. I formatted and re-installed windows xp onto my computer. Usually during installation, before restart, it will check for an internet connection automatically. This time however, its like it skipped right through that step. It finishes installing xp with no internet connection check. When it does restart and finish installing xp, I go in to manually configure the connection, I have high speed, it says its already configured for highspeed but it still says there is no connection.
Ive tried resetting my modem, many times, and router xbox live. I have tried to connnect just straight through modem with no router.. Still no luck! Very fustrating. I have used the disk before on a dif comp and it checked for internet connection automatically. I am clueless as to why my comp cant recongnize the internet connection. Ive done everything I can think of and Ill try just about anything!! I want my comp back! You should first check to see if your network adapter na is setup and configured properly.
You want to go to Device Manager by right clicking on the My Computer icon from your desktop. Scroll down and click Properties. The Device Manager window will open listing all the devices for you machine. Look for na in the list. You would have a problem if 1. You would have to find the drivers for your na to reload it to fix this problem. Here you should see your na listed and showing Disabled, Connected or Network cable unplugged.
If it's disabled you can enable it by right clicking on the icon and selecting Enable. You probably won't see it as Connected because it would most likely be working. If the network cable is not plugged in then it would display Network cable unplugged. See if na is available Then check if you don't have any yellow icon in a form of! Details required :. Cancel Submit.
Previous Next. You need to go to a computer that has internet access and download the network drivers to a flash drive. Then move the installer to the computer without access and install the driver. If you need help finding the driver, please provide the exact make and model of your PC or the motherboard or the NIC card. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site.
With regard to getting SP3 installed you will need to do this manually. My first reply in this thread In reply to 10crackers's post on July 2, I don't know. Inlovewithnight, when you do download all your drivers burn them to a Cd for future use just in case you need again.
OK, I went onto the Dell Drivers site. I downloaded the "chipset" and "audio" drivers. Under "video" drivers, there are eleven and I'm not sure which one to download. I also do not see "onboard Lan" or "modem" drivers. Most likely you have the Intel-Driver G Graphics Controller assuming you don't have a dedicated video card. Of the four entries under "Network" all you need is the Intel-Driver to get your internet running.
The rest are not necessary. The modem is under "Communications". You either have a Conexant or an Intel Modem. I always remove the side cover and look with a flashlight for a label to determine which one it is.
Most of the time with the Dell's I've seen, the modems are Conexant. Again, all you will really need is the Driver, not the utilities unless you prefer to have them. Oh, the audio driver will be the SigmaTel-Driver unless you have a dedicated Creative sound card.
